I Love My New Web Host
January 24th, 2008
This is just a quick note to say that I am really enjoying my new website host, LivingDot.com. They have provided more help in the last 6 hours than I have received from my old host in over a week! If anyone has actually visited my site yet (which I can safely say no one has judging by my meager Google Analytics stats…what can I say, I wanted to pull out the BIG guns this time and pretend like I’m a big deal), you will notice my page load time has decreased from over 10 seconds per page to about 1 second! That’s totally awesome. I really didn’t want to share my updates to the site with anyone until the pages moved a little faster than me trying to roll out of bed in the morning.
Part of the problem was my fault in that I had every page being bulked down with some heavy scripts in my header template that mainly execute on my portfolio page, but tech support was cool enough to actually root around some potential issues and let me know about it. So that’s now being executed through a conditional test, and only loads on the portfolio page. My old host was having very well-noted database issues as well, though. So hah! It wasn’t *all* my fault…
My email is now being reliably routed to my inbox again, too. I just got some renter’s insurance so that I could renew my license last month and prove my identity, and my confirmation for that purchase along with several other similar things just weren’t making it to my email. Neither were about 30% of my contact form tests from the contact page. Not acceptable! But that’s in working shape as of two hours ago too.
Not to mention that LivingDot also set up my site without any effort from my part…we’re talking installing WordPress, logging into my other host, porting my existing database and files, redirecting the DNS for now, everything!
Now if only I could get that pesky DNS key from Tucows and my old site host, I could transfer it to LivingDot permanently and be all through. *sigh* I’m going to close by naming names–please don’t use PowWeb.com if you are looking for a new host!

Wooowee! I am the first person to post on your new super-duper site! It looks awesome. I can tell lots of back-end work went in to this endeavor of yours.

Awww, thanks Daniel! I’m glad you stopped by and looked around. It really did take a lot of work, but it was worth it and gave me something personal (project-wise and otherwise) to work on and look forward to outside of doing this at my day job! :)
